Risk assessments.
In Ireland and the United Kingdom it is recommended to carry out a risk assessment for all functions. It is only legally required to do so if there is an employer/employee relationship. As volunteers we are not required to carry out a risk assessment. This is according the the Health and Safety Executive in the UK, and the Health and Safety Authority in Ireland.
However, it is recommended that each shire should carry out a risk assessment for their events, and especially so for public demonstrations. Risk Assessments are not long or arduous and a sample can be found on the files section of the Insulae Draconis officer's list. Your branch seneschal can get it for you.
Taking the time to do a risk assessment should increase the safety at your events without placing any undue burden on the officers, or participants.
If you would like more information or any assistance in carrying out a risk assessment please contact the Insulae Draconis Seneschal.
