Child Protection Policy for Scotland

Mundane Legal Information

As the SCA’s Organisational Handbook rightly confirms, “the Society recognizes the absolute precedence of law issued by civil authorities over any of its internal rules”. It should always be kept in mind that mundane law takes precedence over our internal rules (sometimes referred to as SCA law).

The Protection of Children (Scotland) Act 2003 clearly indicates that we must be pro-active in checking that individuals that we (the SCA) put in positions of responsibility over children are not disqualified from working with children. If we do this then we are protected from criminal prosecution for not complying with the Act both as individuals and as an organization and also protected from civil action by any disqualified person.

For this reason, the SCA in Scotland (currently the Shire of Harpelstane) has implemented the following Child Protection Policy

Complying with this policy is mandatory for all SCA events held in Scotland.
